Holistic Veterinary Care

Dr. Tiffany believes that the least stressful and most optimum environment for healing is in the pet’s own home environment. She combines the best of Western and complementary veterinary medicine by approaching all cases with an individual, holistic evaluation. Appropriate therapies from both Western and Chinese medical options will be discussed, and a complete treatment plan developed with you, the owner. In some cases additional modalities such as chiropractic, herbal medicine or laser therapy may be indicated.

Low-Level Laser Therapy

The physiological repair effects of low level laser therapy are achieved by the light’s re-energizing (repolarizing) injured and malfunctioning cell membranes. LLLT also increases the energy output within the cell by more than 150 percent. The extra energy becomes a repair and restoration mechanism so that the damaged cell begins to thrive once again.

Research indicates that the beneficial effects of low level laser therapy take place in all organs and tissues of the body. They can include:

  • Reduction of pain by the body’s production of endorphins
  • Decreased inflammation from suppression of tissue stimulation
  • Stopping tissue fluid uptake and swelling
  • The disappearance of swelling, redness, and heat
  • Increased lymphatic drainage
  • The increased blood circulation
  • The flow of healing enzymes into a traumatized area
  • Release of muscle spasms as cause of chronic pain, joint stiffness, and decreased mobility
  • The speeding up of bone/fracture repair

As anIVAS trained acupuncturist, Dr. Tiffany will develop an individual acupuncture plan for your pet as needed. Acupuncture is the painless insertion of tiny needles in specific locations along the animal’s body. The locations are called “active points” and have been extensively studied. They have a collection of nerves and blood vessels that carry a message when activated (by needle) to the brain. The brain then sends active, self-manufactured opiods and other healing chemicals to the sites where needed. In this way the body can improve blood supply and self-heal the areas that need it. Results will depend on the duration of your pet’s problem and how complex it is.

Herbal Remedies

Various Chinese herbs can be used in conjunction with western medications or alone to resolve your pet’s problems.

Examples of conditions that respond to herbs are allergies, inflammation, some forms of diabetes, some behavioral issues and other system-wide problems.

Herbs are often used in conjunction with acupuncture to achieve the best, longest lasting results.

Functional Nutritional (food) Therapy

“Let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food.” (Hippocrates). It is very true that this is perhaps the most important part of your pet’s therapy and critical to his/her wellness. No medications or herbs will exert a lasting effect without the proper nutrition supporting it. Dr. Tiffany will guide you to the best nutritional approach for your individual pet.
